It was a good day for softball. No rain. The games went ok. We lost them both. The first one was 4-3 and the second one was 5-2. We should have won the first game but we had too many errors in the first inning. They scored two unearned runs. The second game we were ahead, but the other team put together more hits in a row than we could. It was a fun game. #14 pitched two good games. #10 and #11 had good playing in the outfield. #5 caught the ball as she was falling. It was a good play. I got to play also. Nothing really came my way in right field except for a base hit. I batted once. I walked. I was nervous, but whatelse would you expect. This was my first college at bat. We have a tournament in Irving over Spring Break. Then we come back and play games on four different days. We have two home games on Tuesday, two away games on Weds, and two home games Friday and Saturday. Hope to you a lot of you guys there for those games.

Thanks to all those who came out today. We appreciated it.

Getting of the topic of capital punishment for tonight.....

We have our first home games this weekend at 1 and 3. I would invite all of you to come out and cheer for us. We will really appreciate it. Its sad to see a school sport that people don't come out to encourage their team and its sad to see the other team has more fans than we do at home. We are representing LU to other school. I know that everyone on the softball team would be touched if a lot of people came to the games. So, if you have time this Saturday, please come out and cheer our softball team on.

I am bogged down with homework right now so this is not too long. I just wanted to let you all know about our game. Hope to see ya there.

Since Sunday night, I have conversations with two of my best friends here on campus. They both are mennonites which also means that they are against war and killing. There have been many wonderful conversations with these two. I respect their opinions and beliefs of certain issues and I enjoy hearing about what they have to say.

Capital punishment is what we have talked about lately. They don't believe in it. When they look at it, they see that it is not effective. Some of their beliefs:

-Someone should not be executed because that person will miss there chance to go to Heaven. Should witness to them instead of killing them
-Who to say that we should end that person's life? We have no right to decide that
-Christ did not come to promote killing. He came to promote life
-We will just pray for them and show them kindness. There life is important to God
-Deciding on who shall die for his crime is like playing God. And we cannot be like God

I think that the death penalty is a good idea. These two friends are entitled to their opinions just like I am. I think the death penalty should be enforced only to a certain extent, and when I become a lawyer I will enforce it if that person is found to be guilty of the crime without a reasonable doubt. Also, by stopping a murderer after he commits a crime could save the life of other potential victims. Christ was killed for a crime he did not commit. His killing is part of our redemption process. Without His death, we would not have this easy access to God. I don't know if that is good to compare executing a criminal to the killing of Christ.

I recently read a poem expressing what a person would go through if someone he loved was killed. He at first would be angry and want to avenge the killing. But as he soon as he goes after the killers, he thought and was reminded of God who let His Son die while he watched. Love was what this person lived for loving the enemies, the killers, and the person that believed differently. He decides to let this friends memory live on and will not kill the killers for justice. Instead he will tell them of forgiveness and about Christ love so there can be more brothers in Heaven to love.

This is just some of the things that stuck out to me in this. It is well written and it really makes me think. Do I really want someone to go through what I just went through with the killing of one of my friends. No, I don't. Instead of reacting how he would. I would probably seek justice and have them punished. If not executed but taken of the streets so they cannot kill again.

I am open to all your opinions on this issue. I would love to hear your taking on this topic.

"God Speaking"

The man whispered, "God, speak to me" and a meadowlark sang.
But the man did not hear...

So the man yelled "God, speak to me" and the thunder and lightning rolled across the sky.
But the man did not listen....

The man looked around and said, "God, let me see you" and a star shined brightly.
But the man did not see...

And, the man shouted, "God, show me a miracle" and a life was born.
But the man did not notice...

So the man cried out in despair, "Touch me, God, and let me know you are here"
Whereupon, God reached down and touched the man.
But the man brushed the butterfly away and walked on.

I found this a great reminder that God is always around us in the little and simple things we take for granted...
even in out electronic age....so adding one more....

The man cried, "God, I need your help" and an e-mail arrived reaching out with good news and encouragement.
But the man deleted it and continued crying.

The good news is that you are loved. Don't miss out on a blessing because it isn't packaged the way that you expect.

Last night I went and saw the movie “The Life of David Gale”. It is about the death penalty and is it useful or not. The main character, David Gale, is going to be executed in the state of Texas for the rape and murder of a follow colleague at Deathwatchers (anit- death penalty supporters). The movie has a lot of twist that you have to find out yourself by going and seeing it. Warning: the movie has some graphic sex scenes.

This movie made me think about a variety of things about the death penalty. I know God instituted capital punishment in Genesis.I am in support of the death penalty only if the person is found guilty without a shadow of doubt. If there is any doubt, then the person should not be killed until the evidence proves him to have committed the crime. If a person confesses to the crime, then the death penalty should be implemented.

I also think that those on death row should not have to wait forever to be executed. In California, there are over 200 inmates on death row. Some of them have been there for like 12 years. These aren’t your first offenders either. A majority of them are multiple offenders or serial killers/rapists. I think it is a waste of our money to help this people live while they took the lives of many others that did not have a chance to live.

What do you think with this issue?
